


The Art Department has eighteen full-time faculty, including three Art Education faculty, three Art History faculty, and twelve Art Studio faculty. They are well-established professionals in their disciplines with national reputations as artists and scholars. Works by Art Studio faculty can be found in several major public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the American Craft Museum in New York, the Minneapolis Art Institute, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Di Rosa Art and Nature Preserve in Sonoma, the Art Institute of Chicago, Yale University, the Rockefeller Institute, and the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.
All of the artists on the faculty have active exhibition records. Examples of their work are displayed on campus and throughout Sacramento. The largest collection of paintings and sculptures by Art Department faculty is in the University Library. Other examples are installed in the University Union, in the offices of the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters in Mariposa Hall, in the offices of the Director of the School of the Arts in Mendocino Hall, and in offices and conference rooms in Sacramento Hall, among other campus buildings. The University Library (including Special Collections and Archives) also is the repository for copies of publications and conference papers by members of the Art Department faculty.

The part-time faculty are fully trained artists, art educators, and art historians. They are all experienced teachers and are very active in their fields. The artists exhibit regularly in galleries throughout the Sacramento region. Many of them also have works in the University art collection.
