2009 Art and Art History Competition

2009 Art Competition and Other Opportunities Any undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled in classes at Sacramento State in academic year 2008-2009 may enter the competition for inclusion in the annual Awards Show. There also is an art history essay competition. Eligibility for scholarship awards varies and will be outlined in the application forms, which will be available in the Art Department office in November. The deadline for filing an application probably will be the last day of finals week (Friday, December 19). The finished entries are due at the Art Department in January 2009 (deadlines to be announced). The scholarship awards for undergraduate students include the Peyser Prize in Studio Art, the R. W. Witt Scholarship Awards in Art History and Studio Art, and the University Art Product Award; for classified graduate students in Studio Art there is the Increase Robinson Memorial Fellowship Award.

Sacramento State students also are encouraged to develop proposals for exhibitions in the Art Department’s Witt Gallery. Each year, the Gallery Committee posts a call for proposals for shows designed and installed by students under the guidance of members of the Art faculty. Shows may feature the work of a single student, a group of students, or an entire class. Most shows last one week. Exhibitors are responsible for designing, installing, promoting, and deinstalling their shows. As a result, participation in the exhibition schedule can be a valuable professional experience for an artist, art educator, or art historian. Guidelines for mounting shows in the Kadema Galleries are available from the Art Department office. For schedules of future, current, and past shows in the Witt Gallery, click here.
