Elaine O’Brien is a professor of modern and contemporary art history and criticism. She received her doctorate from the City University of New York with a dissertation on the New York intellectual and art critic, Harold Rosenberg. She is currently editing a modern art textbook and writing a critical biography of Harold Rosenberg. She lectures nationally and internationally on subjects in her area of expertise. Before coming to CSUS in 1998 O’Brien taught at several CUNY campuses and at The School of Visual Arts in New York. At CSUS she offers lecture and seminar courses in art appreciation, exhibition theory and practice, art theory and criticism, and the history of the art and visual culture of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with a focus on the Americas and contemporary global art. |
